The Flower of Death
The setting doesn’t matter if the ending is the same.
It was a balmy yet chilly day in an unusual place and time. Since it was the last day of fall, this should have been the frigid day of autumn. All the crunchy orange yet uneatable leaves were still attached to the strong trees like a newborn baby to a mother. This strange day didn’t bother the residents but did amaze them.
This day was special because it was a fusion of the characteristics of all the seasons. Winter is like a young child that would play with the snow. The child is amazed by the mist he makes as he breathes out. When he talks he decides he couldn't stop talking. He jumps up and down and the snow fades away to water and the child has grown to a young adult. If that wasn’t enough water, it sprinkles like every mood swing teenager experiences. Even though the sprinkles were small and you can barely feel them. Just like spring. Once he is an adult they want to do whatever they please with their life and summer smells like a nice, icy fresh beer. However, the smell was sweet as oranges.
It was nothing compared to the smell inside the flower shop was like being inside a perfume bottle. Her store was filled with clientele every day. She is the queen of hearts and is kind and young. She was relaxed and relieved that it was the afternoon when the sun is almost falling asleep. She was about to close the store when she saw an old man approach the store.
This old man looked ancient for his posture was curved like the letter c. His eyes were dark blue just as the bottom of the ocean where the darkest creatures reside. His future lives there as well or his past was there. His hair was white and some of his hair was at the point of destashing. The old man's clothing however was really classy just in the wrong era to be precise. He seems to be living at home or a cave all by himself without no one just his thought could accompany him.
Calla, the store owner was about to close the store and leave the old man upset. Nevertheless, she has done worse things and wanted to do something good to even things out. It took some time for the old man to get to the entrance.
Calla went up to him and said in a soft tone, “Hello, how may I help you?” The man was staring at her lips and said, “I want to buy some flowers for my daughter.” The owner looked at him with fear of the unknown. She said, “Oh great, for what occasion would it be for?” The old man took some time to answer and murmured, “She…she is going to live a new phase of her life. Calla exclaimed, “Oh she is moving.” The old man walks towards the roses and answers, “Indeed she is a woman with many great features and some are unseen.” Calla went up to the man and said, “How does she look like?” The old man didn’t look at her and answered, “She is rare unlike no other for she doesn’t have any similarity from her family. She is unique. How can you say it?… She was never satisfied because she wanted more than what she could have. She was an independent woman but she met a young man. This young man had fortunes but his biggest fortune was her.” The old man pause and look at the red roses that were almost black. Calla said, “Yes, roses significance is the love that partners have for each other.” The old man took a rose and stood up straight and look at the left corner of the shop.
He walks in a moderate fashion to the Purple Orchids. He said and Calla followed him, “You know these are given to show love and affection. They both loved affection and once she knew about what he was powerful and knew of what he could do. She showed it even more.” Calla shouted, “Really my boyfriend gave me that one” The old man, “Why are you screaming at me?” Calla was confused and said softly, “I am so sorry.”
The old man saw the Callas and said, “Jealously.” Calla look at the flower. The old man continued, “She knew that she wasn’t the only beauty his eyes could penetrate. They had many discussions so many that it defines their relationship for now on.” Calla looked annoyed by the elder. He took the orchid and took a calla. He look at the yellow Gladioli and murmured “She fought with him every moment that she felt insecure and found that her purpose was no longer to love him but to get that.” Calla feel scared and felt like running from him and leaving the flower shop to somewhere else anyone else. She asks, “What…what is this?” The old man took his glasses off and put them in his suit.
He grabbed the gladioli and put it on the counter. Calla went up to the counter and look at him. He walk and grab an orange lily and look at the window and said, “She try to love him but there was no reason for trying if all she wanted was that.” Calla look at the back of the man and felt like there was no air. The man had taken all the air to himself. He continued, “ She didn't want to apologize for she wanted that place… she wanted it. She didn’t want that man to have it for himself. For what he knew of taking care of the delicates.”
Calla answers, “She had pride.” The old man said and walk toward the counter, “ Of course Calla she had pride. She wanted that place at any cost given. One night when they fought and she took a step forward and suffocate him.” Calla looked at him with shock.
She enter some numbers in the calculator and said, “It's twelve.” The old man reach his pocket and took a small dark purple box and the correct amount of money. He handles the box and the money. He said, “ The best days don’t end the same way.” The old man walks away and Calla looks with fear and looks at the box. Her hands were tempting to open the box as she opened it. She saw a flower with the sharpers of thorns and the leaves themselves look like snakes teeth that are tall and sharp upward. Each petal was red like the blood of the young man that she had killed. The flower shop died as they saw the flower and she went to the deep sleep she had deserved.
